Fairies...

Of the fairest, sweetest and most magical of all beings are the fairies. Winged, and adorned in all the bright colors of the four seasons, they fly above the heads of the gnomes and other earth dwellers, singing songs of peace and harmony, which give life to the forest and sweetness to all it's fruits. Fairies are quite small, fitting just perfectly in the palm of a human, with delicate, silky wings and their hair flowing about them. They are very sweet and friendly, and reflect these virtues in their elegant behavior, yet they do not speak. For they were born with tongues yet never developed a language of their own. Speech is not neccesary for their communication. Long ago, in their making, fairies were blessed with the oil of the magic willow trees and crowned ladies of the night by their mother, the Fairy Queen, who is adorned in blue. The particular breed of fairies i speak of now are the "blue fairies" as called by men, but they are known to their fellow forest dwellers as "moon fairies." For their appearance gives off a heavenly blue light, radiant and comforting, deeply resembling the moon. These fairies also are only present at night, when the moon is high in the sky, providing it's luminous beauty for the wood. During the full moon they all sing the song first sung by their mother, when they were just children, honoring her as the mistress of the night and protecter of all things nocturnal.

Moon Fairies are close friends with the mushroom gnomes, who live near by the willow trees, in their cozy holes. They often sing to them and enjoy the sight of the magic pipes which the gnomes love to smoke on a midsummer's night. The two races co-exist in the heart of the wood, providing peace to all travelers and showing great revere for men, whenever they may venture by.
