Wyrms (Dragons)...

Of all the terrible, disgusting and down right wicked creatures of the wood are a species of serpents known formally as wyrms. This name has been passed down by the great viking lords who once ruled the area, but to most men they are simply known as dragons. Dragons vary in shape and size, some being more "worm-like" than others, with skinnier builds, longer necks and living in the sea. While the more common of them are broader with huge wings and a fiery breathe. But all dragons share a common trait...they're maddened lust for treasure has led to their victories and defeats over men with their swords of steel. Upon finding a source of treasure, usually a mine shaft or castle treasury, they swoop down, sending fire to the place and destroying anyone and everything in their path. Then they simply make the rubble their new home and lounge on the treasure keeping a sharp eye for burglars and noble knights seeking vengance. Dragons share a common ancestor, for long ago, when the earth was being made and the stars were veiled from the abyss, a single dragon turned from his maker and sought power for his own, making a refuge for himself far away in the deep northern mountains. His descendants are the dragons of today, who've inherited their father's hatred for humanity, his lust for power, especially treasure, and his will to dominate all life.

Dragons speak a language unknown to men, for when they speak it, humans seem, not only to not understand, but to feel faint and grow weary, becoming more susceptible to the danger before them. This language is believed to be a form of trapping the dragons prey. It is one of hundreds of languages they speak and is vile to the ears, if one can understand it. Dragons love to feast on livestock and cattle, but mostly humans, who seem to be a cleaner meat in their mouths, except when coated in armor, as is the case with knights.
